Shanda Akin

Shanda Akin is a Colorado-based photographic artist, educator, and community builder with a deep appreciation for the natural world. Her photographic practice explores impermanence, resilience, transformation, and overlooked beauty, inviting viewers to look more closely at the subtle changes unfolding around us.

Following a 25-year career in the United States Air Force, where she developed a passion for teaching, mentoring, and leadership, Shanda transitioned to full-time photography in 2019. She holds a Master of Arts in Photography from Academy of Art University and published her first photography book, The Beauty of Durango, in 2023.

As an educator and mentor, Shanda’s approach extends beyond technique to encourage photographers to develop stronger visual awareness, artistic intention, creative confidence, and a deeper understanding of their own photographic voice.
