What people are saying
“The conference exceeded expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Unlike many photo conferences I’ve been to in the past, it was way more inclusive and that made it special.”
-Kelley Priddy
“It was an honor to be a speaker at the First Annual Horizons Photography Conference. The quality of speakers, the knowledge we shared, and certainly the incredible imagery, to not only ooh and aah over, but also seeing how we actually took the photographs was invaluable. It was also a great chance to interact and make connections with so many great photographers, whether they were speakers or not. I really look forward to the next one.”
-Wayne Suggs
“This conference brings our community together, and you can feel it. So many people are excited to learn, to share, and to make something meaningful. That energy is why we, photographic educators, do this.
Photography is a vessel. It carries us into places we might never go, and invites us to look longer than we normally would. When we put a camera to our eye, we are saying, “This moment matters.”
What I love most is how photography turns curiosity into connection. You start by chasing light, and you end up listening. You learn about the world around you. You ask better questions, and you get comfortable with silence. And if you keep showing up, the world opens. The big scenes are unforgettable, but it is often the small details that stay with you, like the sound of boots on frost, or the quiet between breaking waves.
Photography is also a life lesson. You miss, adjust, and try again. You learn to work with what the day gives you, not the picture you imagined on your pre-dawn hike up. Photography changes how you travel and live. You become present, patient, and kinder to your mistakes.
Do it with others, and this hobby gets even better. In small groups, the rhythm of early alarms and late sunsets builds a kind of family. You share tips, you share equipment, and you cheer the win when one, or all of you, get the shot. That is the magic I see here at Horizons. A community that lifts each other up, learns together, and celebrates the joy of making images.
My simple belief is this: if photography is your vessel, use it to see more, to care more, and to tell stories that matter. Keep your eyes, heart, and cameras ready, always. The world is not waiting for perfect technique. It is waiting for your attention.”

“This conference proved to be an inspiring event, featuring a diverse array of speakers and captivating topics. It broadened my perspective and provided new insights into my craft. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to connect with my peers, industry leaders, and fellow photographers, who shared their personal narratives of overcoming challenges and achieving success. The conference was held in one of Colorado’s most picturesque regions during the most breathtaking time of year. The organizers demonstrated exceptional kindness and attentiveness to all attendees.
I would highly recommend attending a future event.”
-Michael Quinn
“I love the Horizon Conference because it focuses on Vision and creativity. There’s lots of gear and technique driven conferences, but not enough that focus on personal creative growth. This one does.”
-Cole Thompson
“This conference was a rich learning opportunity for beginners to advanced outdoor photographers. The speakers were excellent and gave many innovative ideas. Also, the photo walks gave precious opportunities to make images in the peak fall colors of Colorado beneath blue skies and thunderstorms. Top notch!”
-Heather Sykes
“Shanda and Martha have done an incredible job of fulfilling a real need in our industry: in-person, inspirational education and networking. I left Horizons with a feeling of expansiveness, having met so many new people and listened to the wide variety of approaches and philosophies shared by the speakers. I hope that there are more of these events to come in the near future!”
